OUR VETERANS NEED US NOW MORE THAN EVER

OUR VETERANS NEED US NOW MORE THAN EVER

Friend:

This has been quite a year. It started with the cancellation of a Warrior Camp program in the first quarter and our programming continues to be on hold because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

We know that Veterans are at an even higher risk of suicide due to the many life disruptions brought on by this virus and the subsequent economic repercussions. This makes it all the more important that those of us who work with them be fully prepared to re-engage in face to face programming as soon as it is safe to do so. You've heard from several veterans that this program has been life saving, and your support right now is critical to the many many veterans out there who need our services.

What we have accomplished during this pandemic so far:

  • A Webinar Series: TRR’s Azimuth Check Webinar Series was launched as the Covid-19 pandemic made it impossible to provide our much-needed direct services. We produced a series of 7 educational webinars, with each one highlighting one particular modality used during our Warrior Camp® programs and how each one is guided by our understanding of Military Moral Injury. One of our veteran staff appeared in each webinar to talk about their own experience at the program and to enliven the Q and A. The series was created in-house, along with a team of digital media, social media and marketing professionals. The webinars now live as archived videos on our website. We chose the term “azimuth” as our title because an azimuth is a well-known military tool used to determine direction of travel. That is what healing from Moral Injury entails.
  • Train the Trainers Workshops: We began the year with a very successful Suicide Prevention Summit held over the course of 3 days, focused on teaching the core concepts of Military Moral Injury© and group work with military veterans. Participants had both classroom instruction and two days of experiential work with our horse herd. This provided them with the hands-on learning essential to appreciating the way the herd’s behavior informs our repair of Military Moral Injury. Mental health providers and veteran service providers from 8 states, including New York, attended. We plan to make this an annual event, the next iteration will likely be in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2021.

These are undoubtedly trying and unprecedented times for our entire community. The COVID-19 pandemic has required us all to stay at home and distance ourselves from loved ones, friends, and colleagues alike. These physical safety measures have left United States Veterans unable to access traditional forms of community engagement necessary for their mental health. Isolated Veterans are at increased risk of suicide, and they need our support more than ever before. Accordingly, TRR is offering an exciting and informative webinar series as a way to keep our community together during this time of crisis and uncertainty.

“Isolation is a killer in the veteran community. It’s something we fight every single day.” Jeremy Harrell, Veteran’s Club INC Founder and CEO, Kentucky Veteran of the Year, and Warrior Camp Alumni.
